Love leaves memories and more behind

There’s a saying that goes: “Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory that no one can steal.”

Those words cut to the core of our recent client, Jennifer, from Commack, NY whose father passed away a few months ago.

Many of those memories still remained in the family home on Long Island, where Jennifer and her siblings all grew up. But what would become of all of them?

“We were all in town for the wake and decided to discuss when we would come back to start hiring companies to clean out the house,” she said. “We had no idea what to do with the stuff. We talked about what we wanted, how we would dispose of what we didn’t want, as well as items with value.

“We were especially scared because the first two realtors we interviewed said they could not show the house until it was at the very least 90-percent empty. The house was chock full of 50 years’ worth of our family history. It was like a time warp.”

To further complicate matters, all the siblings lived out-of-state, which made the process frightening, to say the least, Jennifer said.  One of the realtors she spoke with suggested calling Relocators.

“Relocators came in and after a 30-minute meeting, we basically cancelled our future trips to Long Island and time off work, and had the weight completely lifted off our shoulders,” Jennifer said. “Relocators moved all the items we wanted to keep into their storage facility. Over the coming months they arranged for third party shippers to ship us items as we wanted them. (My items will be safe in Relocators storage for a long time.)

“Then they had their estate sale department, Sisters in Charge, come in and facilitate a two-day estate sale,” she continued. “They sold off thousands of dollars’ worth of things we no longer wanted or needed. I heard from neighbors that there were crowds outside with lines forming hours before the sale even started. They also told me that the house was set up like an actual store.”

After the sale, Relocators mailed Jennifer her portion of the proceeds, and contacted the family with a fixed quote on the cost to clean out remaining items.

“They assured me all possible items would be donated, and sent tax receipts to my brother’s house to put towards dad’s estate,” Jennifer said. “The rest of the stuff they disposed of, and then cleaned the house so it could be shown and ultimately sold.

“All of this was done on three separate days over the course of two weeks,” she added. “I cannot say enough good things about how vital Relocators were in helping us through this once in a lifetime undertaking. They saved us on time off work, travel expenses, and time away from our families. Most of all they made it so easy.”

These days, Jennifer tells friends who have aging parents about the services offered by Relocators. “I wish there was a Relocators in Connecticut, where I live.”
